My Protector?

This morning, as I traveled back and forth down my driveway to take out the trash and the recycling, I noticed that this neighborhood cat (who on occasion streaks past my door and across my yard) 

had taken up his post...

 to guard me,

or perhaps

--as he stared me down as I stared back at him 

and turned his creepy head to follow my every move--

to intimidate me?
