Chicago, I Have Loved Thee: Day 2

Thursday: Wake up, get ready, go sit by the lake. Walk to the church where the meetings are, and have them, and finish them. Take the L to the Fountain. Let someone take your picture when they insist upon it. Be a little glad you did. Walk and see the architecture and the scene and the fancy building within which you will order Shake Shake. Eat. Wander home in summer waning twilight. Stay up, quite late. Drink chamomile tea in your cozy bed and reflect on how much you are loving this unexpected little trip.

Chicago, I Have Loved Thee: Day 1

Officially, I was there for meetings.
(Meetings that--20 years from now--
just might be referred to as pivotal ones,
in the realm of humanities higher education...)
But, given lots of downtime,
I also had myself a beautifully unexpected little vacation.
~~
Wednesday: Arrive. Hit Lakeshore Drive (just a block away from your hotel). Walk along the lake until you get to the Aquarium. See the Aquarium. Take the L to Garfield Conservatory. Wander. Return to the hotel and find the Chicago Theatre on your way. Be very tired. Eat a prolonged meal on the patio of your hotel. Experience the moment that Kevin brings you cookies, because he thinks you will enjoy them with your coffee. Talk to the drunk man (who thinks you are quite lovely), and then excuse yourself for a cozy bed. Sleep, kind of.
